PET NEWS - BY ARANESH
Hey everyone,

You’ve probably seen or heard the recent discussions about the future of Pet Battles in World of Warcraft: Midnight. For many of us, this has been a worrying development and I wanted to take a moment to speak directly to our community about it.

Pet Battles have been part of WoW for over a decade, and they’ve built something truly special: a community of players who are deeply passionate, creative, and loyal. For many of us, Pet Battles aren’t just a small feature. They are our way of playing WoW. We collect, strategize, share guides, and build friendships through this system and that connection goes far beyond the game itself.

It’s no secret that Pet Battles haven’t received much attention lately. There hasn’t been any new content or major development since around the middle of Dragonflight, and naturally, that leads to a drop in engagement. But that’s not because interest disappeared, it’s because when nothing new is added, even the most dedicated community runs out of things to do.

And yet, the Pet Battle community remains one of the most loyal, enthusiastic, and longstanding groups of players in WoW. So many people here spend hours upon hours of their spare time creating strategies, writing guides, developing tools, and helping others enjoy this part of the game. That kind of passion doesn’t vanish. It just needs a reason to shine again.

That’s why it’s so important right now to make our voices heard; politely, clearly, and together. Blizzard listens when there’s a visible, united response. If you care about Pet Battles and want to see them continue to exist - or even thrive again,

Please take a few minutes to post your thoughts on the official forums:

Every comment counts. Even a simple message of support helps show Blizzard how much this feature still means to players around the world.

How to post on the US forums if you play in another region:

  • Scroll down to “Starter Editions” and add a new one (if you don't have one already)
  • Select a US Starter Account
  • Restart your Battle.net client and log in with the new US account
  • Create a character on any realm and level it to level 10
  • Log out of the forums and back in — now you can select your new US character and post!

Pet Battles have brought joy, creativity, and community to WoW for years. Let’s make sure that continues.

Thank you all for being part of this amazing journey, and for standing up for the feature that brought us all together.

When my old guild members and friends quit playing WoW, I was bored with solo play so I started pet battling. It is my favorite part of the game now and literally the reason I keep my subscription going. I'm still working on achievements. Its quite sad to learn there may not be any new content for Pet Battlers and even more upsetting that it may begin to phase out completely. Every thing else seems to be a race to the finish, and almost impossible for players like me to complete all the raids and dungeons without people willing to be patient and helpful. I hope Blizzard will reconsider and put the pet battle community amongst their priorities even if its the bottom priority. I wrote on the Forums page also.

Baby Blizzard BearSounds a lot like my story. My guild evaporated also. The pets are a fun way to go. (still hasn't finished family battler on Argus) (edited)

Pet collecting and battles are a big part of my WoW experience.

I only solo and have very limited play time - so I pet battle - I am truly sad about
this and am not sure I will continue to play WoW.

The pop-up on every single page is getting really obnoxious.

There's nearly 2000 battle pets currently available in WoW, I don't think it's a loss that some future pets don't battle. There are only so many combinations of moves for the different families and people tend to use the same handful of pets for them anyway. Which, yes, could use adjusting.

Blizzard has already said they're not removing battling entirely and even went so far as to make family battler achievements for Kalimdor, the Kingdoms, and Northrend. I don't think it's a stretch to assume there might be a family battler for Midnight, and if there is, I guarantee it will be possible to achieve with the asinine number of battle pets already available.

Also, regarding the caging changes; I for one never enjoyed having to rely on RNG to catch pets.

I think it's safe to assume that the collectors have always been more of a majority than the actual battlers, and I highly doubt Blizzard is going to go out of their way to cater to even the vocal minority that is battlers. Regardless, it's clear that they're not "phasing pet battles out" like people seem to believe. I absolutely believe we should advocate for better balance and variety in the available battle system, but overreacting to the announcement like it's the end of the world is a bit much.

Hey, thanks for the feedback. Just to confirm here as well. The popup will go away if you click "Close" instead of the X on the top right. It was never set up to reappear constantly. Apologies if that is what's happening to you. Please let me know if this doesn't solve it for you.

I appreciate the effort but you you please stop the constant pop-ups. It's fine on the front page, but right now it's every single page...

I believe it pops up five times, regardless of which page you land on.

Mine went away after about that number, though I wasn't counting (edited)

Yes it's 5x but I will reduce it to just once. Just click on the "Close" button and not the X on the top right and it will be gone.

I added a reply, but if this is true, why would they give us pets as part of the Epic Midnight preorder?

They will keep adding more pets as rewards - and of course for sale in the Shop - but very few that can battle, and as far as we know, no more battles.

I'm adding my thanks to you for your site, it has helped me out so many times. I'm about to add to the EU forum. I've reached an age where I no longer want to do dungeons/raids or even delves as I didn't much enjoy them. Collecting pets and mounts is what keeps me playing. I enjoy levelling the pets, hate it that there are ones we can't level. I do the garrison weekly still and most days go and battle Doodle to help with levelling bp's. Not sure how many new eyes he has needed now, poor elephant. Anyway, thanks again for your awesome site. Good luck

Thank you for pointing this out to us.

I enjoy Pet Battles and don't want to do without them. They are a nice pasttime for me and a nice way of leveling new alts when I am tired of combat.

Just a hint:
While your post on the WOW-Forum certainly can attract voices for the continuation of the Battlepet aspect of the game as it was and is, it may be more productive to go into general discussion.

Fingers Crossed we make it through this!

Such a shame... I was hoping we'd see more new stuff eventually, a new dungeon, and even new pet battle content, but they're even trying to cut out the bare minimum, that we have had for the past few expansions...

I really hope we can make enough noice to be heard. :)

What a shame. There are many ways to measure interest and enthusiasm other than retention rate and ultimately dollars.

Aranesh - what you wrote was absolutely perfect. No one could have written it better, thank you for sharing your thoughts publicly and for all that you do on this website as well. You've made pet battling not only a better experience for people here, but also gave us the desire to WANT to collect and battle more - thanks to your guides and community that you provided.

Hopefully Blizzard reverts their decision making. As you said, it's quite frustrating for them to cite lack of engagement while they completely ignore pet battling for patches. Karesh has been the worst. No wild pets, no new trainers, nothing. Yes some pets as drops or from the weekly world quests, but that's it. Let alone something interesting like another mini tourney a la Celestial Tournament or an entire pet dungeon.

For me, I come to this site almost daily, so I'm hoping for everyone's sake here that in the future, pet battles become "cared about" again.
