Left WoW in 2017 and returned this year to an emtpy guild and an empty list of friends.
Game has changed for the solo adventure, not the multiplayer portion.
Pets have been one of the only things that hasn't changed that much, and is one of the most things I currently enjoy. This page has been really helpful in acquiring my Celestial Family (a couple of expansions later :D) and keeping the pokemon collector soul alive.

I've done almost all the content in the game, and yet every time a new patch or expansion happens, pet content is the first thing I do. This decision is disappointing and sad.

I love collecting new pets and this has been a stress free way of playing the game when I am tired of grinding for gear and the endless gear chase. I do admit I love to procrastinate on collecing pets but its always been something I enjoyed since it was introduced a long time ago. I may not have a lot of pets but i still consider my 1300+ pets dear to me.

Pets were like an unnoticed currency for the first decade I played WoW, and then became a new parallel world to explore and conquer. I remember discovering battle pet strategies, revisiting Northrend to find my first Unborn Val'kyr, and then Xu-Fu's guide to dungeons, Celestial Tournament, and all the family battlers. Baa'l and Uuna were epic. This parallel world has been an intriguing secret-collector-battle-puzzle stretching over the second decade, with it's own community, challenges, skills and rewards.

I encourage Bliz to continue expanding this content with new talents and seasonal balancing to challenge strategists, new dungeons and tournaments to challenge battlers, and new achievements and secrets to challenge completionists.

I really started to take interest in battle pets last November. Well I spent a year on mostly playing this, it became my whole reason to keep playing WoW and I've been collecting almost all of the battle pets in this year. It's such a great adventure, as a collector but also as a trainer, doing all the challenges was the most fun experience I had in WoW, especially the dungeons questline... I hope the pet battle content never stops.

I am so annoyed with Microblizz right now, They really are telling their more casual player base how little they think of them. Removing pet battling, even for collecting is a real slap in face. Shows how little they understand or care about us, Rant over :) Take care all.

Collection battle pets is what keeps me coming back for all these years. It just feels a lot more personal than mount or transmog collecting. There is more effort and dedication involved than just killing a few raid bosses once a week. And to top it all of there is this awesome community which I feel proud to be a part of!

I've been collecting pets since launch and I've enjoyed doing the pet battles since Mists of Pandaria - I know people like to compare it to pokemon but its a bit different and I've always wished Blizz would have added a mobile pet battle/levelling mini game to their various wow-interface apps for mobile.

Having insta-catch mechanics for non-combat critters seems kinda cool, but completely losing out on all the other pet battling seems pretty heart breaking - I think theres still room for both interesting pet dungeons and new pet skill mechanics to explore. I hope Blizz doesn't completely forsake pet battling/collecting in Midnight :(

I have played wow since classic. I used to carry more pets in my bags than anything else. I advocated for them to make a pet journal because my bags were always too full lol. Wow was how i met my husband and we loved to pet battle each other. I have loved pet battles since they have started and finished the tournament and dungeons long before I discovered pet battle scripts. But since discovering them and this community it has just made my love for pet collecting and pet battles even stronger. It's one of the few things I do in wow it's how I play. It would be a serious error to get rid of it. I thank you for all you do by running this website either way and hope this community doesn't go anywhere.

I really enjoy how pet battles can just be done at your own pace at any time. Whether that's as your primary activity, while waiting for a group for a raid/dungeon or just while doing something else on your computer or around the house.
It's also very convenient to have the ability to "pause" during PvE pet battles by just not completing your turn if something else requires your attention

It's always exciting to find a new rare quality pet to add to your collection in the wild. I'll often just enter wild pet battles while doing other things around the world and it's a nice treat to find that there's a rare quality pet to be able to catch to add to my collection, bonus if it's a particularly useful breed :)

From day one, I have loved the pets!! With all the added bonuses of increasing how many pets I could have in my own personal menagerie to seeing what new pets are added with each expansion, this has been a wonderful part of the WOW experience. It would be a tragedy if this portion of the game was eliminated. Especially after all the time and effort we pet hunters have put in. I am sure, like many other of my pet hunting friends, they have dedicated bank tabs and huge amounts of gold in all their pet endeavors.

My first little Pet was a Mechanical Squirrel. This little guy immediately stole a slot in my heart! And in my bag... I quickly found him new companions, so much so that Bombinette, Mechanical Yeti, Prairie Dog Whistle, snakes, and frogs of all kinds filled my bank.
When the Pet Codex arrived, freed from the storage constraint, one phrase resonated within me:
"I want them all."
Today I'm far from that number, of course, but I cherish each of my 1807 pets.
I love having one of them accompany me on my adventures, I love having them match my equipment or mount, making a little sound when I touch them, or performing a surprising little animation.
I love raising them and making them fight, and the satisfaction of winning against an opponent, especially in PvP.
I also like to wrap them up in little gift packages to give to my friends, and of course, I love receiving them! They're such a touching and adorable present.
For me, Pet Battles are an exciting and relaxing aspect of the game that I couldn't live without.

Thanks to Xu-Fu, for all the work done, for the news and strategies that have helped me a lot over the years.

Collecting has been my primary way to play WoW for years, and engaging with the pet battles has been a large part of that. Since I've started engaging with the pet battle system, I've levelled 1187 pets to level 25, and I've acquired 1791 unique pets. To me, collecting and leveling pets is just as much a core part of WoW's reward structure as grinding for mounts. Inability to continue supporting a core part of collecting like this is a big red flag for the future of WoW in my opinion. (edited)

While it's clear the game is aimed at the more dedicated players with time for scheduled raids, Mythic+, and PvP, I honestly think all the little things are what make World of Warcraft truly great for the casual crowd. As my age adds up and life's responsibilities—especially the kids—demand more of my time, WoW is the reliable constant I always return to. Since I can't commit to a set schedule, I stick to solo play; LFR quickly loses its appeal (and don't get me started on M+ pugs), so the real joy for me is in collecting pets, figuring out new strategies, and discovering the subtle hidden gems the developers sneak in. For a busy person like me, that low-pressure fun is the best part, and I truly hope they keep the pet battles in game, even if they don't add more. I'm still only about 70% through my collecting journey.

I love pet battling. I have a stressful job and live in an increasingly-stressful country and pet battling is one of the few peaceful, entertaining, and purely good-feeling things. I stopped playing WoW for around 10 years and the thing that lured me back was that I remembered pet battles being both fun and entertaining - which they still are. They offer low stress goals and feel productive, when too many things just feel mindlessly grindy.

Pet battles are one of the few activities I still practice in the game. I dont have the time to run raids or dungeons. Upgrading gear gets old rather quickly when you replace hard earned purple pieces with green ones from a random quest. That being said, pet battles are forever. It's my favorite way to level up toons passively.

I am collecting pets since the beginning in Vanilla 2005. My inventory was always full and my older brother bullied me because I hadnt room for other loot. With Pet Battles in MoP my collection paid off. Finally there was an activity just for me, not this stupid raiding I was forced into from the society. I love creating strategies esp. for the family achievements. Pet Battles are beside collecting my only activity in WoW, because Blizz first deleted Combat Rogue and then stripped my beloved skills like Marked for Death and Killling Spree away from Outlaw so that I didnt bother anymore on raiding. M+ is to stressfull for me. They already took my other favourite chill and meditative activity with Archaeology away. If they also abandon Pet Battles and delete my addons I really see no reason why I should keep on playing although I still love the old world. My heart is broken and I am torn apart.

I’ve played World of Warcraft since vanilla and over the years I’ve explored almost every part of it, raiding, questing, PvP, roleplaying, but the one thing that always brings me back is pet battling and collecting.

No matter how many times I’ve taken a break, it’s the pets that makes me want to come back. Collecting them, leveling them, learning their abilities, and finding those little companions out in the world has always been one of the most peaceful and rewarding parts of the game for me.

Pet battles add a kind of heart and warmth to the world that nothing else does. They give me a reason to slow down, explore, and enjoy the game in a more personal way. It would honestly break my heart if they were ever removed, because for me they’re not just a side feature. They’re the reason I keep coming back.

Pet battles are my most likely reason to get back into WoW after a break from the game. I love looking at the new pets for each patch and if Blizz continue I worry for side content in the game as a whole. Pet battles were never meant to be a "pillar" of the game like M+ or Raids they are something fun and sometimes goofy to do on the side. That's worth something. 700+ leveled pets might not mean as much on this site as it does in other circles but those pets mean the world to me.

However, when TWW came around I was introduced into the pet battles from a friend and now I really enjoy it. I've been going back and doing old content that I had skipped (like the pet dungeons) and finding out a bunch of interesting things in the game that I had simply skipped before (rare pet spawns and weather specific pets). It has thoroughly increased my enjoyment of the game beyond just collecting

I started playing WoW towards the end of legion and one thing I remember most about my first time playing was learning how to use the Core Hound. Ever since then, I love collecting exotic pets. One of my favorites is Shadow, B'aal and some others.
One thing that means the most to mean about pets is that I get to name them whatever I want. I have one of the orange cats named Paco in memory of my late best friend.
I love pet battles because it gives me the joy of watching my pets win through hard work and strategy.

I love collecting the new pets that come out with each new expansion. Pet Battles are one of the main reasons I still play World of Warcraft. I get on and do a few pet battles after a tough day or just to relax.

It's such a nice part of the game that really brings out the best in people. i.e giving away extra pets to new people, helping someone get a rare pet, trading rare pets with others and offering people to join guilds that have the guild achievement pets.

Would really miss it if it went away.

New to the site. I've been an avid classic player since the relaunch, and started collecting with classic MOP pre-patch.
Before I started doing it I thought the pet battle system was just going to be a tedious grind I wouldn't enjoy, but felt obligated to because I like achievements.
It turns out that I've enjoyed every aspect of it, from leveling up, to finding novel pet teams, and collecting the huge variety of pets.
I've found the entire process extremely enjoyable, which I did not expect, and I hope to have many years of opportunity moving forward.
Hearing the news on here that blizzard might sunset the pet battle system in retails newest patch is very disheartening. I hope they change their minds as this part of the game is something everyone I've spoken to about it has enjoyed.

Collecting pets will still be part of Midnight, and this is nice. Yet, taking the time to capture the right pet whatever the dangers lurking aside, taking the time to bring it from wild to an efficient pet fighter is another story.
I have been in pet battles since day one and this has always been a large part of my gametime. I remember the first days, when winning a battle was not granted and the pride we had when wa had our first 25. Nothing compares to these feelings. Not a point, capture and collect feature at least.

Pet battling is one of the most satisfying parts of WoW for me, it's something I can grind at and improve without the pressure of having to perform at my best in front of others. It takes your downtime and turns it into a whole new side mission! Without the ability to collect, level, and battle pets, this game wouldn't hold my attention anywhere near enough.
It would be a complete disaster to see pet battling go the same way as Archeology - another idea that they failed to support and let fall to the wayside. Communities like Xu-Fu's, and WarcraftPets are testament to just how loved this aspect of the game is. I've got everything crossed that Blizzard don't abandon this part of their community <3

I like pet battles because it requires a different skill set than regular battles. You have to have a timely reaction but it is not based on your physical dexterity; It is more about using your brain rather than your hands. When my hands began to fail from MS, in the early noughties, it destroyed the game for me. I could no longer control the mouse or use the keyboard - slipping from 60wpm typing to 3 or 4. I persevered and found ways to continue playing although my DPS is often lacking I have been able to carry on with the main gameplay especially since WME arrived. The only reason I continued to play was because of the pets. Once I figured out how to capture and level pets the next step was to find and collect them all. I have long tried to capture every pet but it really became my obsession in 2020 and I began to keep a chart of my progress

Pet battling, like first aid and archaeology before it, is one of those niche activities that keep me engaged with the game. Removing pet battling is just one of the many little things (pun intended) that make WoW singular and unique. I don't think anything will stop its removal as Blizzard is now under MS rule. MS seems to be removing anything that isn't part of core functionality to save developmental resources and money. This is a mistake, IMHO, but with the XBox announcement MS is banking that rather than waste time with pet battles players will play their other game offerings. I am quite saddened by this.

I stand fully with Xu-Fu and the Pet Battle community.

Pet Battles are more than a side feature—they’re a creative and meaningful way to enjoy Azeroth. For many of us, they’re the reason we still log in.

Please, Blizzard: don’t let this system fade away. Even small updates or continued support would mean a lot to everyone who loves this part of the game.

Thank you to Xu-Fu for speaking up and keeping our community together.

Jujubakid wrote on 2025-10-27 19:13:06

I love to do pet battles since its launch in Pandaria. I was in high school and was so fun to collect all those pets around Azeroth. I even leveled a lot of characters only doing pet battles on the critters hypers spawn at Valley of the Four Winds. It's a different type of content, I can just chill with music and travel around the world doing battles.

It would be great to have more content for it like the pet dungeons and some extra features to the battles (I even suggested some stuff on the ingame suggest option), but those recently announced changes are NOT the way. It's already a super niched content and we, as community, aren't happy with those changes.

If the devs want more players to be on this side of the game, bring more content to it, with good rewards which can be used on end game content like raiding/M+, without making it an obligatory content. Maybe weekly boxes with extra crests or/with random rare professions materials to craft enchants/gear.

Make pet battles significant to others that don't play it, instead of pushing away people that already loves it. (edited)

Every aspect of WoW feels like a niche. Some like to pvp, some like to raid, others to run mythics. Then there are the auction folks, the gathering folks, the crafting folks, the folks who enjoy leveling toons- everyone has their reason for playing.

The pet battle / pet gathering is yet another niche, that deserves the support of Blizz and would not be the same (at all) without communities like XuFu that have crafted, supported and been proactive in creating the pet community we have today. Without them this just wouldn't be the same, Blizzard / WoW, would lose something special.

Everything felt overwhelming - life, the world, job, etc. - so pet battles was a nice small chunk that I could conquer. It took a bit to understand the add-on's and using the strategies here, but its been so rewarding watching my collection grow! And not only that, watching the strategies helps me understand them better, so if I'm missing a pet, I know what to look for in a replacement. I've made some huge strides in getting the pet achievements (even if the ones that are seasonal/time based annoy me!).

In addition, I love the pets that look like my pets. I had a White Kitten from forever ago, which reminds me of my soul cat Ivan. The Witch's Familiar is totally my old girl Tola, full of cattitude. I love how you can rename the pets so they're more personable to you. I'm still trying to find the right pets to rename for my current kitty boys so I can have them around in game as well!

I've started playing WoW near the end of BFA. My bf back then, was showing me all the stuff to do. I got a bit overwhelmed by it of all the choices and of my bf rushing me to level my character. So when I was wandering around picking up quests in my alone time, I stumbled over the pet battle quests and got sucked in right away.

I would be hours busy with it, struggling at first and slowly levelling and capturing some pets as I was going around exploring the world. This is one of the reasons I love pet battles, it makes you go out exploring and discovering things the game has in it. It makes me appreciate the details, big and small there are.

Back then I ended up in a guild where I met someone also interested in pet battles and told me about addons to help and this amazing site! In the beginning it was all nice to do such simple stuff as running legacy content for mounts, transmogs and pets. But when Shadowlands hit, the guild turned quite elitist imo and I just felt drained and lost my fun for most things. I left them and took a break from WoW. I came back during Dragonflight but told myself, just be a casual player. Do the things you enjoy and keep it simple. Nobody will judge you for what you decide to do!

Now I'm part of Bears Adventures lovely community, with Bear being a nice and supportive person. Nobody there is being dismissive or discouraging you in what you like and/or enjoy doing! You find people with the same interests that are very helpful and I'm glad I found such a warm and welcoming family <3

I still don't have all the pets, nor are all levelled but I'm slowly working on it all. I'm taking my time and enjoy these pet battle breaks when I'm not doing other stuff. Meanwhile I've dragged my current bf into pet battles and help him out whenever he is struggling with not having the pets, not levelled or giving him pets he doesn't own yet.

Love doing pet battles as they make you expand your pet collection in order to win (celestial tournament, master trainers, pet battle dungeons...). PvP pet battles is also cool as you have to think on your feet!

One of my main enjoyments in this game has been to collect pets, ever since I started in WOTLK and all they did was look cute and stand next to you. When pet battles were added to the game it changed my entire view on the game and I've not stopped since. It is one of my favourite ways to spend a cosy afternoon in WoW and when I went into Ka'resh and there were no battle pets in the wild (something I was very very excited for) I got very sad and splurged a fair amount of gold on emotion-infused pet buying from the auction house.

I started in the re-release of classic (2019), and as soon as I came over to try the current content, what caught my eye instantly was this thing called 'Pet Battles'. I was so determined to learn how I could become a real player in the PB community. I even remember the feeling of pride I had when I FINALLY got my first pet to 25!! I love WoW for many things; raiding, mythics, questing, pvp, and even transmogs! But one thing that always brings me joy, that I can do on my own, has an extremely active & large community full of resources for anyone looking to get involved; is the Pet Battle community. Thank you to everyone who participates, helps write/contribute to guides, this whole website!! For some people, Pet Battles is what they look most forward to in WoW, and I think it would be a great mistake to remove that from everyone who enjoys them.

Pet battles have been a huge reason why I still engage with WoW. Raids and dungeons and pvp is constantly changing, but collecting rare pets, leveling specific ones for achievements, and kitting each character with their matching "pets" has stayed a fun, easy, relaxing part of play. How dare they phase this out, so lazy shame on you dev team I hope they seriously reconsider and give it MORE love not less. And while they're at it bring back archeology!

One of the things that has given World of Warcraft its longevity as a game, is the fact that it caters for a wide variety of interests. You can be a loremaster, a PVPer, a collector, raider, a dungeoneer, a guildie, a delver, an economist, a crafter, and more! Pet battling is one of those activities that is probably a niche market, but as exemplified by this website, has a definite group of players who really enjoy pet battling. I love how a pet battle breaks up the "kill this, kill that" flow of the game and that the only dying involved is a pet or three which are then restored miraculously to life to fight again! I will be soooooooooo disappointed if pet battles are removed from the game. Please Blizz, continue to cater for all tastes and interests in the game that you've done so well for so long. (edited)

What I love most about Pet Battles is how they bring a different kind of magic to World of Warcraft... one built on creativity, patience, and strategy instead of just power. Every pet tells a story; every battle feels like a small adventure. It’s not just a side feature.. it’s a world within a world that connects collectors, strategists, and dreamers alike.

That’s why seeing the system in such an uncertain place now hits hard. Pet Battles have been a part of WoW’s soul for over a decade, and they deserve to keep growing, not fading quietly. I’ve been sharing feedback on the official forums to make sure Blizzard knows we’re still here, still passionate, and still ready to fight for the feature we love.

Let’s keep our voices loud and our pets strong.. this community is proof that the Pet Battle spirit is alive and worth protecting.

I'm playing WoW since Vanilla - private servers at first, because I was too young to have my own money for prepaids. I always liked pets - Snowshoe Rabbit from Dun Morogh was my first one. As private servers were kinda clunky at this time, it seems that my sweet rabbit pet was friendly only to me, but aggresive towards other players - my future fiance-to-be included :D So imagine bloodthirsty 5polygon rabbit chasing my party member, while he was running cursing this damned rabbit!

When they first announced pet battles this was my first imagination of it - sending army of fluffy creatures to trample your enemies. Still, the battles in their final form gave me a lot of fun - im still doing pet battle WQs, not for tokens, but for fun and relaxation. WoW will be lacking a piece of really nice and relaxing content if the devs will fully decide to never create more pet battles again.

I also found enjoyment in writting script for other people's battle ideas. It truely impresses me that people come up with a plan for every battle. I think pet battles are an individual part of the whole game, and should remain just like any other part of the game, like pvp, pve content, raiding, M+ progression, etc. Every part of the game apeals to someone, and keeps them playing. I have been collecting pets since Burning Crusade, when my first pet was the white kitten and I paid 5 gold because Timmy was never around when I was searching for him. One of my first comments on wowhead involved that boy and his kitten, and I loved how Blizz had that tiny adorable pixilated cat following him around.

I loved the pet dungeons, and especially the celestial tournament. Time and love went into the later in my humble opinion, and I really appreciated how the dev team put it all together. The dungeons were a nice and soothing, yet oh so very fun to do, even if the RNG (at least for me) was a bit on the sad side. But.... in the end I eventually got all of those pets in the breeds I wanted them in.

What I did not enjoy was all the wild pets that came in soooo many different breeds this expansion. As a breed collector, I had to try and get the best breeds possibly, and my leveling queue was horrendous for the ages. Felt like I was NOT gonna ever see the end of leveling. Seemed to me, the pets were put into a copy/paste kind of queue, where a huge number of those wild pets all had the same number/type/variations of breeds. Yes... I know I could have stopped at one, but ... I didn't. I went on to collect 3 variations, even if there were no special movesets among the pets. The point was.. I wanted the best possible breeds, and I put a whole lot of time into collecting those pets.

I like the breed system. I like how different pets have strengths and weaknesses depending on those breeds. And I love the pet dungeons. Even if Blizz did not want to make more dungeons, they could have easily put more pets on the vendors in those dungeons. I would have gladly gone back and collected them.

And for those reading this, yes... I love pet battles. I may not be the best collector, being a solo player, but I DO love the pet battle system,

As a side note, I am posting this very same comment on the Blizzard Forums. (edited)

Battle pets have been my favorite content in WoW since they came out. Every expansion, one of the first things I do is hunt down the wild pets - at least the more publically available ones. It might take me a while to hunt down the rares and rare color variations, the backline-only pets, the special summons, but hunt them down I do. And then the pet trainers and the meta-achievement(s), pets to buy and pets to hunt from quests and rares... all of it. I wish they'd continue with battle pet dungeons and Raiding with Leashes. It's heartbreaking to think they'd cut all that out entirely. I mean, what we've been getting recently hasn't been much, but it was something to look forward to. K'aresh was so disappointing. Lazy, too - the themes of environmental recovery and retrieving lost life forms from the "shadow realm" should have provided plenty of fodder for interesting and different pet battling content.

As a member of the WoW community for the last 15 years, collecting pets is the one thing that has kept me actively playing. When I go through lulls in the game, hunting elusive pets is one of the things the quells the boredom. In months I'm too busy to log in, having a pet available in the Trading Post has engaged me to play. Every event I log in with hopes something new is coming. Engaging with pet battles and the "collection" aspect has kept me coming back over and over when I'm a little burnt out. My favorite part of WoW is having all these "side" objectives when you need a break from regular content!

Many of the pets in pokemon not only border on ridiculous, but go so much worse! The only times WoW get close to "ridiculous" pets is when they try and cater to RL foreign markets, & thus move out of the game's mythology. But mostly, the pets are so well themed and characterised, it is among the best "sub-universes" in any IP.

My BIG hate is with things like Gill'el - where you can only get it if you're an American. i HATE that sort of exclusionism!!

There’s something deeply satisfying about collecting pets—hunting down rare companions, building themed teams, and watching my roster grow. It’s like Pokémon with lore, and I love every second of it.

But it’s not just about the collection. Pet battles are my secret weapon for leveling alts. While others grind dungeons or quest zones, I’m out there battling critters and gaining XP with style.

And pet dungeons? That’s my endgame. My raid. My challenge mode. Strategizing teams, countering mechanics, and pushing through tough encounters—it scratches the same itch as mythic raiding, but with tiny claws.

For me, battle pets are the most important part of World of Warcraft. They’re what keep me logging in long after I’ve finished the latest raid or questline. Collecting and battling pets gives me a personal connection to the world — each one has a story, a memory, or a little quirk that reminds me why I fell in love with Azeroth in the first place. I love the thrill of discovering a new pet out in the wild, figuring out its best abilities, and creating new team combinations to take on harder battles. It’s a slower, more thoughtful kind of challenge compared to the chaos of dungeons or PvP, and that makes it relaxing and rewarding in its own way. It’s something I can enjoy entirely on my own schedule, without worrying about group metas or gear scores — just me, my pets, and a world full of possibilities.

That’s why I feel so strongly that battle pets should never be deprecated. They bring an incredible amount of depth and heart to the game that no other system offers. For players like me, they aren’t just a side activity — they are the endgame. Taking them away would mean losing one of the few parts of WoW that still feels truly personal and timeless. While other systems come and go, battle pets have always been a constant source of joy and creativity. They give players like me a reason to explore every corner of Azeroth, to keep discovering, collecting, and caring — and that’s the essence of what makes World of Warcraft special.

The weapons and armour of today don't have that anymore, at least much less so. It is more about the look. And the look doesn't matter to me as much anymore. He replied that they were actually thinking about something to make collecting and using these pets more interesting. Since then, we've gone from a collection management interface to battles. Now, with Midnight, we're going back twenty years because there's neither the will nor the internal resources to work on this feature. This is very sad.

That's exciting to me because when you find that blue rare of a particular breed, that seems to take forever to find, it then becomes satisfying when you capture it finally! There is some heartbreak and horror though when you accidentally kill that precious find -ugh! But all in all I have a lot of fun with it and always look forward to leveling those pets too. Us hardcore collectors that like to compete on unique count and leveling like on warcraftpets.com seems super dumb. Part of my fun collecting is trying to be the best and get the harder ones that require fighting.

I've been collecting pets since Day One, and when they added the Battle Pet system, I was excited. It's a lot of fun to go out there and hunt various pets (including those ones that like to explode before you catch them :p). On Super Squirt days when I have a decent queue, it's relaxing to put on some music and level those pets. I hope Blizzard reconsiders their changes to pets.

I have loved pet battles since I was a little girl when I first started playing WoW, but over the last few years has been my pride and joy when it comes to the game. While I am excited for the new expansion, I am weary about the direction they are taking pet battles. Pet battling has been a way for me to interact with other players around Azeroth, be proud of the collection I have worked hard at creating, and a way to build friendships in the game. I am thankful for the pet battling community created here, and no matter what is to come, I hope we are able to continue banding together and share our love of this very special part of the game.

Part of the interest is collecting, not only the unique pets of mass variety that factors into the achievements, but also the duplicates to max out a set for efficiency vs the various trainers. But mostly, it's a relaxed activity when it needs to be (on a personal level), but also a challenge when even the best research on the best strategy for a particular target is still a battle. Trying to come up with strategies is one thing, but sorting out a script that works with it is a separate coding challenge :) But not so code intensive to have flashbacks to my employments of yesteryear :) tl,dr; It's fun! I truly hope that with the +10,000 replies, likes, views & comments in multiple languages across the various forums, that the devs will look into fixing some of the existing issues and expanding on the battle pets. I don't know what metrics they used to make their assessment, but it seem like they may be shooting themselves in the foot should they continue with the abandonment of so many people.

I think battle pets is a great mostly solo component of the game. (I don't like to battle other player as I'm not good enough.) While there are plenty or resources out there to help you, they provide a different kind of challenge. You have to figure out what the classes of the team you are fighting and what classes to counter with. Then you need to find a pet with the right move set from that class. Even still the order you bring them in matter as well. You might get stunned in round 2 and have to transfer in the pet you needed to kill that one. It is kind of an art and takes patience to figure out.

I thought pet battling was so stupid when it first came out, "it's just pokemon"; but now it gives me a reason to WANT to go out and collect all the vanity pets. Without pet battling, it'll feel as hollow as collecting all those transmogs that I'll likely never use. I want to catch 'em all and level them all up and make them all blue because it scratches a very particular itch that I know so many of us have.

Of all the different parts of WoW, pet battling has been the one I always consistently come back to and enjoy. Would be really sad to see it go and it would be the one feature that makes me consider no longer keeping my subscription active between major patches. Hopefully Blizzard understands that Pet Battling is more than just a mini game for many of us, it's also a place of community where we work together and help each other to overcome challenges. It's also the only piece of content that has some work required to get good at it but doesn;t force you to endlessly restart the grind every season.

Collecting pets in World of Warcraft is one of those surprisingly satisfying parts of the game that keeps me coming back for more. It’s not just about ticking boxes on a collection list — it’s about the thrill of discovery, the charm of companionship, and the sense of progress that comes with finding something rare. Every pet has its own collecting story and sometimes a unique way to get it. Chasing these pets encourages me to explore every corner of Azeroth, revisit old content, and appreciate the world’s incredible attention to detail. On top of that, the pet battle system adds a whole other layer of fun — it’s like having your own little Pokémon league inside WoW, where strategy, team composition, and clever counters matter just as much as looks. Some pets are extremely rare, and finding or trading for them can feel like winning the lottery, while others just bring joy through their cute animations or quirky behaviors. At the end of the day, collecting pets is about building a personal, living museum of memories and adventures — a reflection of our time in the game and the journeys we've taken. It’s one of those hobbies in World of Warcraft that turns simple moments into stories, and makes the vast world of Azeroth feel just a little bit more alive.

My favorite thing about Pet Battles is the sense of discovery and puzzle-solving! Going into a new zone and figuring out which pets to capture, or cracking the code on a tough trainer/dungeon with a specific team composition, is incredibly satisfying. It's a great low-pressure, turn-based activity that offers a completely different kind of engagement than the rest of the game.

It would be a real shame to see this fun, deep system not continue into Midnight. Thanks for running this giveaway and helping to spread the word!

CmdrBond wrote on 2025-10-22 01:39:30

From the start of MoP I have used pet battles to level characters, and continue to do so even now in this Turbulent Timeways and Winds of Wisdom age. It is straightforward, it is relaxing and can be done with one eye on a video screen and the other ear listening to the spouse complain about their day. It is always a sad day when WoW, which has so many things to offer different kinds of people removes something that an identifiable group of players, no matter how small, clearly enjoy. Particularly when two of the watchwords of modern Blizzard are inclusion and accessibility. Pet Battles do not require reflex, they don't demand perfect gearing, they aren't pushing folks to play outside of their comfort zone. It would be a huge mistake for Blizzard to stop creating battle pets and only release companion pets as collectable items. The decision withdraws a level of engagement for players that is waiting for them to explore.

As someone who's played that one very popular creature battler since I was a little kid, I was delighted to find a similar mechanic in WoW. I love all the little critters, I love the baby versions of bigger mobs, I love the creativity of some of the pets, I love the secret pets and some of the crazy stuff I've had to do to get them, and I really love having a little buddy follow me everywhere. I especially loved finding out about the "shiny" mechanic where some pets have a super rare coloration. Chasing down pets, battling in the wild, and finding rare colors has been a big chunk of the time I've spent in WoW. I was actually gutted to learn there were no wild pets in Ka'resh because I get so excited going into new zones to see what new critters there are. I would be devastated for a whole portion of the game to get cut out like that. I really hope Blizzard rethinks their decision.

Lastly, I've used the in-game feedback tool to voice my opinion. I think there are a lot more of us doing a lot more things than they seem to realize or track. I almost never find myself out in the world doing quests or captures without someone there as well and I'm not on a busy server group.

So let's keep up the pressure and keep making our voices heard! (And a few pets I don't have in this case would be great!)

I started getting into pet battles back in Legion, but only half-heartedly, mostly for the world quests. However, for the past few months I’ve been fully invested: catching up on old achievements, searching for secret pets, doing dungeons, upgrading my pet menagerie to level 3, and so on… It’s so much fun going back through all the old content, trying to collect the strongest pets and create cool teams.

I can’t even really say exactly what I enjoy the most about it—I think it’s the combination of collecting the rarest and most powerful pets and battling against quest NPCs and dungeon opponents. I haven’t dared to try PvP yet, and from what I’ve seen on YouTube, it’s not that great anyway—I really wish there were a better system for it.

To sum it up: I’ve only just really started diving into the system, I’m having an amazing amount of fun with it, and I’m really sad that it’s apparently not going to be continued in Midnight.

The Pet Battle dungeons are great fun though I'll admit I don't run them after I got all the rewards available. Getting new rewards available would get me back in.

My guild has some amazing pet battlers, quick to share advice or to send pets that are cageable as a loan for any given battle. Our best pet battler used to organize tournaments.... he would select a trainer to beat with fewest moves, or the team had to spell out some word with the first letters of the names, or all kinds of crazy unusual challenges. And the guild bank was full of some amazing options to choose for the prizes. We keep meaning to get back to it, but the last expansion hasn't had anything that kept the donations flowing or the interest. We sometimes gathered on the bridge in redridge so that even our newest members could join, it was a great equalizer for us and so fun!

And here there is a little community that tends to be more tolerant and chill than other areas of the game. It's always been part of World of Warcraft and I'd find the game a bit weird without it. I don't want to speculate why they're doing it, but this is definitely going to make the game worse, not better.

Pet collecting and battles are a huge draw for me. I don't tend to stick with video game franchises that long. The one franchise I've been with longer than WoW is Pokemon. I think having that common link between the two is part of why I've stayed engaged with WoW for so long. It's like 2 great franchises in one! I get it's not a core part of the game like raiding, but for some of us it's a major part of how we spend time in game.

I'm especially upset because I've spent a lot of money in the shop on battle pets over the years. I wouldn't have done that if they were purely cosmetic. I feel like it's a major rug-pull for those of us that have spent money on battle pets.

There's a profound sense of satisfaction in meticulously crossing a rare spawn off my list after hours of camping, the triumphant click of my trap finally capturing a elusive pet, or the simple joy of traveling to a remote corner of a map just to add a common-but-unique beast to my roster; it’s a game of completionism and personal achievement where every new capture, from a lowly rabbit to a legendary dragonkin, feels like a tangible victory in my self-imposed quest to "catch 'em all."

Hello all. I am a bit of an old timer ;) 64 years young this month! Now, I tell you this for context. Being older means I am much slower participating in raids, dungeons and such. So, most of the time when my hubs is working I play solo. This involves ALL the pet battles, pet dungeons and achievements. I solo most old content to get the battle pets that I want (all the battle pets). I honestly don't know how I'd fill my time if pet battling goes away. I do still love questing and such but, pet battling is my go to every single day. Anyway, sorry for rattling on but, I just wanted to get my thoughts out here . Have a GREAT day all! (edited)

I recently came back to WoW after a 10 year break, and the thing that drew me back was remembering that pet battling (for me, mostly the collecting and the levelling parts) were fun. They still are - but I also sort of feel like if they weren't a part of what I do every day (and they are absolutely a part of what I do every day), I'm not sure I'd keep playing.

I was once bidding on an Ethereal Soul Trader in the Black Market Auction House and this other player showed up and started bidding too. We went back and forth for a while until they suggested a "gentleman's agreement". we /roll and the loser backs out and gives way for the other. We rolled and i lost so i left.

I could have went back on my word and kept bidding. I could have swapped toons and transferred gold to bid more. but i just didn't i did what we agreed on.

The next day when i log in, i have a message from that other player. Telling me that he already had one and was just being greedy. He included the Soul Trader in that mail. I offered to pay him for the gold he spent on it, but he declined. Said he respected the fact that i respected the agreement and this was his way of saying thanks.

Nearly twenty years. Thousands of battles. Countless pets. And still, every day feels like the first time I stepped into Azeroth with a tiny companion by my side. Pet Battles aren’t just a feature—they’re a ritual, a joy, a connection to the soul of WoW. I’ve collected, trained, and cherished each pet like a memory etched into my journey. Whether it’s the thrill of a rare drop or the quiet satisfaction of a perfect strategy, Pet Battles have kept my heart in the game. Let’s keep fighting—for our pets, for our passion, for the battles that bring us together.” (edited)

I’ve been pet battling since the feature was launched in MoP and it honestly made me feel more engaged with the game. I really enjoy collecting pets, competing and doing challenges. I agree with some of the replies that the pet battling system should be revamped/refreshed, not removed. The Celestial Tournament is a good example of what Blizzard did right with pet battling. Seems like there are many things they could do: add new families, add epic or legendary tiers, increase the level cap, make pet battling scenarios/instances. Hell, model future content after what Pokémon does well. Eliminating pet battles is not the way forward; in fact, I’d be less inclined to pay a hefty subscription fee without them.

i have often considered quitting WoW after playing for 16-17 years but what keeps me coming back, day after day, is Pet Battling. i think of these little critters as friends, i have (probably foolishly) renamed plenty of them after pets i used to have, and consequently feel emotionally attached to them (my Feline Familiar, Thompson, is named after a cat that went too soon and i feel overly protective of this pet, if it dies i res immediately and then get annoyed with whatever killed it). there is room in WoW for many different styles of play, i don't want to run mythic+ dungeons or end game raids, i am useless at PVP, but i can pet battle all day and have enjoyed myself. its been irritating/depressing enough that WoW has overlooked pet battling so much for so long, rarely a new achievement and new pets just different skins of old pets, but c'mon Blizzard, think about you old players who are border with your over simplistic game play so default to pet battling just to stay engaged. My Wife has been playing as long as i have and she is already talking about using the removal of pet battles as a gateway to finally quitting WoW, i have never felt so demoralised with WoW/Blizzard as i do now

I really hope this doesn't go through as is. I came back to play TWW with friends after quitting during WoD and pet battles is what kept me playing after they stopped back in Season 1.

I still remember a kid in High School moving to the US from Japan with a copy of Pocket Monsters Green before it came stateside and being in awe of the game. I'm not sure pet battles was quite the same, but the collecting along with this website has made it really fun to choose pet breeds, level, and optimize.

I was quite sad to see K'aresh ignore pet battles, quests, and wild pets so I hope that Blizzard realize the mistake and don't do us wrong with Midnight.

Pet battles are a near and dear part to my heart. My dad would buy pets for me as gifts for my birthday from the AH or he'd farm them and send them to me in the mail wrapped up with a message. Those pets I would always name and level to 25 as fast as I could never once getting rid of them. It's been idk how many years now and I still feel some of that childhood wonder when I look at them or use them. They are my favorite pets and will always be. They are my most used and for a long time the only pets I'd want to use. My dad hasn't played in years but its a core memory that I always think about everytime I look at my pets. He started my little collection of both mounts and pets and I've grown them both way more than he ever thought I would. I also remember walking around as a fresh toon and I'd pick a pet that will be my buddy. I'd name them and keep them on level to me as best as I could. If I was somewhere questing that had level 17 pets my buddy also had to be. My heart bleeds when I think of them sunsetting it. Its something that has always been there (even tho I started before mist) Its always been a little relaxing escape from the chaos.

Everyone is all so welcoming and i tried to contribute by creating some silly strates. It was before and the start of the covid that i started to get really invested in the battlepets so these world quest, dungeons and pet farming really are my some of my best memory. It would be such a shame if blizzard stop making new playable content for battlepets :( I hope they will reinvent the system ? maybe not just almost completey scarp them from the new expansion , at least some world quests :(

Pet Battles provides me with a very engaging yet diffrent part of WoW that i truly enjoy. It's relaxed yet engaging, it's easy yet very complex. and is one of the main pillars for my enjoyment of the game. Taking parts or all of it away, would simply make me have less intresting things to do while online. Changes are often scary but tends to aim for improving soemthing. I don't see how any of the posted changes amount to that, they're just removing aspects without any plans of replacing them with something. Slowly working on trainer achviements is a wonderful way to spend my off-evenings, and I would miss it greatly.

I absolutely love pet battles and collecting pets in World of Warcraft. There’s something about hunting down those rare, unique pets that really pulls me in. Whether it’s finding them in hidden corners of Azeroth or working on leveling them up, I just can’t get enough. The strategic aspect of pet battles is so satisfying too, putting together the perfect team and coming up with the right combos for each battle is just so rewarding.

It feels like its own little game within the game, and there’s always that sense of accomplishment whenever I catch a new pet or level one up. The growing pet journal keeps me coming back for more, and I love that there’s always something new to collect. It’s like a never-ending adventure, and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. i got hooked from the day a dark whelpling randomly dropped for me in the badlands, back when it still had to sit in your limited bags. did most of the content when it came out or within the expansion, quite enjoyed pvp battles even early on, but now fatigue has set in due the system becoming so cluttered.

the collecting aspect is still fun, but in general anything pet battles is very, very slow and tedious. the system needs an overhaul and reducing the time needed to capture is welcome to me. however, we need better features, not fewer, and perhaps some streamlining. maybe things like breeds can be done away with in favour of similar pets with same skillsets but different breeds - eg all "plain" bear cubs share a skillset but different stats. pvp battles probably need looked at as well, to make them more engaing and perhaps quicker or more rewarding whilst making cookie cutters less relevant.

fully doing away with pet battles is certainly not the right route. i was already pretty disappointed to see all the cool and cute critters in k'aresh that weren't tameable. that aspect was certainly missing!

Kitty With A Hat
It was early October, on a cold fall’s night, the night of 2012 to be precise. A humble and very aloof Druid pounced around the halls of Stormwind only to be bombed by orange pumpkin grenades that kept appearing for some odd reason. The Druid caught off guard a bit but still managing to poke around, eventually stumbled across a nice girl who was definitely from out of town. Suddenly, there it was, a black kitten companion, a Feline Familiar. Who could abandon? The nice girl was selling her, or so it seemed, it was an exchange for A Tricky Treat scheme. In that moment, the Druid had forgotten how many times she had been pumpkin bombed, they sure were rotten. The only thing that mattered was how to obtain a few Tricky Treat’s to purchase the kitty she couldn’t wait to meet. Countless days passed, and pumpkin bombs were falling, there wasn’t much time left for this near calling. The drenching debuff was almost enough to turn back, but the Druid remembered how adorable she was, this little black cat. Finally, in the last few days of the special event ending, the Druid saved up just enough Treat’s, there was no heartrending. The Druid ran to the nice girl, not even caring, about the stenchy pumpkin bombs, it sure was daring. The Druid gave the cat a new home and never looked back, with green eyes so wide the kitten just sat. In the final moment, the Feline Familiar was wearing a hat, and it wasn’t just any hat, it was a large hat for a small cat. The Druid was so happy with that, and decided to name her Kitty With A Hat.

I have been collecting pets since inception. Gone are the days when you spent hours and hours trying to fine a rare quality, back BEFORE EVEN THE STONE AGE. I have made a lot of gold selling my duplicates found during questing though I have angered a few ###### by selling them for a more realistic price. That gold has gone to pay for my wow habit. I have leveled numerous toons via pet battles, pet dungeons, etc. Currently at 1883 unique. Blizz does have a tendency to ruin a fun thing. I loved archaeology but they destroyed that though i still run new toons through it where pets can be found. i also collect mounts (709), achievements ( 4090achievements with 34645 points and use to collect recipes in all profs but blizz ruined that with last couple of xpacks. But fear not, I will collect on!!!!

Pet Battles have been one of my favorite aspects of the game since they were introduced and honestly have become my MOST favorite in the last couple years, as raiding and PVP just do not appeal to me as much anymore. I'm honestly pretty devastated about the change. I was going to get the epic preorder of Midnight to get THE PETS but finding out they won't be battle pets has changed my mind. It's soured my mood towards WoW pretty badly. I think player housing is neat and all, but if I had to choose between that and battle pets, I would choose the battle pets. I guess I'm glad they're not taking it out completely, but I was really looking forward to the new ones! It's one of the best things ABOUT new expansions!! I am wondering what I will really even need them for now. :( I have definitely been making my thoughts known in other places, but I feel like one tiny voice amongst so many people who never liked battle pets in the first place, and it sucks. I don't like delves that much, but I'd never campaign against them being a part of the game! Ugh. I'm so sad. GL to everyone in the contest!

I was never terribly drawn to collecting pets, and what interest I had in it was broken by the introduction of pets I will never get - Bucketshell/Sir Snips.

But there are too many pets anyhow. I value only the wild pets I capture, and the ones that have interesting battling capabilities, and a very few others with exceptional animations.

But battling- I love battling.

A battle is a small puzzle, like a sudoku or a wordle, and it is wrapped in the lovely experience of the animations and music of a battle, even when I already know the answer.

There's not much left for me in tha game any more, not much I enjoy, and pet battles were a large part of what was left. I will miss them,

I was so disappointed when I resubscribed for the latest patch and saw there was no pet battles to collect in K'aresh and no new npcs to battle. I love that it's by and large a sub game of the main game, perfect for more chill times or just when you need a break from the grind.
On the same note this would be the perfect opportunity for Pet Battles 2.0. A fully revamped system with a UI that actually supports how serious collectors of pets (and achievements) play the game. As a 'game in a game' it would be prime for a mobile game, similar in ways to Rumble with zone tamers and dungeons from the main game shared in the app. That way, when you need a WoW fix but can't sit at a PC, you can still play your character and your collections, furthering leveling and achievements at any time! Since picking WoW back up recently I've started to actually try and complete all of the pet battel achievements, which made me fall in love with it all over again. I really hope they reconsider the chanegs for midnight and in a dream scenario maybe even add new and fun pet related content, more dungeons, more variety or even some sort of content you can (more or less) endlessly farm for rewards.

As someone who grew up with things like Tamagotchi, Pokemon, and Neopets, I was always bit by the collection bug. I remember when I began playing in Vanilla I found out that there were companion pets, and specifically the Dark Whelpling became my fixation to earn. I would spend hours killing dragons in a loop in Lethlor Ravine until it finally dropped, and that little whelp was the start of an addiction.

When MoP added the battling system I was overjoyed, it felt like such a natural progression and a really fun way to engage with my collection. As the years went by, I started to enjoy the little moments of strategy, leveling my pets one by one, and upgrading them all to the highest quality.

It felt like maintaining my collection in a way that kept me proud of what I'd accomplished, and I loved being able to actively USE these pets. The Family Familiar achievements are always a highlight for me in a new expansion, and I love having Pet Battle WQs out in the world.

Now that we've had the battling system for so long it would be such a disservice to players to sunset it, I really hope they reconsider their trajectory, I'll just be gutted if the battle achievements and WQs get left behind.

I had posted this on the WoW forums, but I feel it fits here, and would likely strike a chord and resonate with some here:

This game is great because of the many things that can be done.

What would the world be if we all stayed in the city and just queued for dungeons?

When you fly around, would the world seem less alive if people weren’t battling pets, fishing, and doing other ‘non raid/dungeon’ prep?

I’d never suggest removing raids or dungeons, even if I don’t really do them. It isn’t my thing, but they are also part of the tapestry that makes the game great.

I love pet battling, I got into it in Legion when I was burnt out on raiding, but my wife still wanted me to play. I leveled a bajillion guys up. I loved the trainers and dailies, I learned there were type advantages and even strategies that help beat some trainers.

This is a thread in the tapestry of the game, a detail like the above, when lost will have one less color, one less detail. There are some in the pet battle community that might not play in the future, and I will dearly miss those people (I hope you do too).

We might not be the most boisterous or ‘sweaty’, but we add to the game - just the same as the others. We add to the ambiance, and help keep the game from being a lobby queue game (though, those aren’t bad, Plunderstorm was pretty fun!).

I merely ask that you consider what you are giving up - whether it’s because you truly feel there is low player engagement, you simply don’t have enough developers for it, or another reason. I will never ask for another person’s passion in the game be diminished, I humbly ask you think about mine - pet battles.

I have played wow since 2005 and often played with my Dad. I used to be a semi hardcore player but even then I loved pet battling. I have many memories of playing with friends and extra special ones with my Dad who was recently diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.

I will be literally heart broken to lose something my Dad and I enjoyed so much together. Pet collecting was the main reason he played, he loved it, sadly he can no longer play so I play and tell him all about it.

Many fond memories, from chasing the 5000 PvP wins achievement to watching my Dad pick 3 anubs and winning often because the other person didn't want to slog it out ... I think we all know about that pain lol. He would make his own sound effects for the anubs hitting the opponents and he was always excited when they crit :)

The excitement of finally finding that elusive pet or the guy who only appears in a back line. The joy of getting a drop in a raid or dungeon. Grinding out the charms needed for Scout and simply spamming Squirt to see the little guys level up. I would miss it all massively and I hope that doesn't happen.

Huge thanks to you for this site, one of the few sites my Dad ever bookmarked! He was a frequent visitor and checked frequently to see when Squirt was next up.

I suck at pet battles. I 100% use xu-fu for all my strategies, except for wild pets where I just blast my way through with anub. idol or starlette. They shouldn't remove them from the game, though. It is nice to have a an alternate set of goals when I am not doing mythics

I'm not playing WoW for quite some time. But I must say that one of things, that lingered my stay in it, were definitely Pet Battles. It was one of the things that showed the love of labour of the team that worked on them. Despite it's non-epic intention, they became one of the most exciting parts of the game.

I love the unique puzzles and experiences that you have to complete (sometimes many times over!) in order to get pets. One time I found one by swimming into a submerged cave in Northrend. I still remember how happy I was to have found that little murloc guy. I have played WOW for 20 years and pets are the only thing I really like and interact with every day.

Pet battles are the main reason I play wow. Without the battles I have no incentive to collect pets and explore. I love having casual solo content I can play, I love the nostalgia of the WCII music during the battles. Without battles I'm likely to unsub completely.

I'm the type of player that dabbles in everything, and after really getting into pet battles at the start of this expansion, they have been the one feature of the game that I prioritize first before other content or collectables. They're fun, relaxing, and a cozy corner of WoW that isn't (I guess by merit of being mostly single player content) infested with people that are rushing you to go faster or chastising you because you're not playing the way they do.

I honestly think this is one of the nicest communities in WoW. I've met (and witnessed) extremely nice people through pet battles, both in-game and out of game like through this forum. For example, during the most recent WoW's anniversary event, when Squirt and an assortment of other trainers were at the event grounds! I came across some other pet battler enjoyers and even became battlenet friends after chatting about battle pets for a good 30 minutes or so.

And community aside, trying to decide my favorite feature is difficult, but I think I'd have to settle on the pet battle dungeons. I loved them so much! The stories are cute and silly and was such a big motivator for me to really focus on collecting and leveling up my pets, just so I'd have an easier time in those dungeons.

I’ve always enjoyed the relaxing gameplay of collecting and battling pets, it’s an ideal break from the high intensity content that takes up most of my game time! Collecting is the true end game after all.

As I type this, I am sitting in Tanaris hopefully waiting for a sandstorm so that I can catch one of the few remaining wild pets that I need. During the 20th anniversary celebration I noticed a guildie getting achievement after achievement for pet related content and it piqued my interest. I found myself starting to collect...then starting to battle...and now I can't imagine an Azeroth without all of this. While I do enjoy raiding and running keys with my guild, pet collecting/battling has quickly become my favorite way to relax in game. Honestly it is what has kept me engaged and I love that it has given me a whole new community to connect with.

I’ve always loved pet battles in World of Warcraft — the strategy, the thrill, and the endless variety. But what I enjoy most is collecting them all. Each pet feels like a tiny adventure, a mix of nostalgia and discovery that keeps the game alive for me.

so Blizzard Please, don't remove this epic battle pet !

I like battle pets because I'm more of a casual player, I like collecting stuff and pet battles are chill because they are turn based and can play them while distracted or even be interrumpted by irl stuff and come back right where I left.

Funnily enough, I never cared too much about battle pets until I started MoP classic (I've been playing WoW since original Cata!). And now that I'm being focused on pet battles, they are cutting them down LOL!

I hope they listen to the community. And also want to thank you for keeping up this site, it's great! (edited)

For the last few years, I have been playing "World of Warcraft" mostly for pets :) Just for the sake of collecting, probably. It is not interesting to collect mounts - you can only mount one transport at a time, there is no need to have two or two hundred of them. And pets look different, and they wander around my home in Drenor, making it pretty and lovely!

I remember when pet battles came out and a lot of people said "World of Pokémon, heh". I got hooked pretty much immediately.
For me it's mostly the collector in me that loves collecting new shiny things, or rare things, or hard to get things. But also the completionist in me that wants to have all pets at rare and lvl 25.
I'm not the most avid collector and I have slowed down a bit lately, mainly because my inner completionist has been tempted by a lot of other new and shiny things to get (Remix and all the shinies in it being the latest example). I will, however, do my best to repent and return to the pet battles in more earnest.

Verily, I say unto thee. If the sacred rite of pet battles were to be cast into oblivion, my spirit would cry out in lamentation and my soul would sorrow greatly!

Battle Pets have been a passion of mine since they launched in MoP. I enjoy battling them, collecting them and theory crafting teams to beat harder opponents. I also have one specific battle pet for each of my characters that harmonizes with their armor set and mount.
But the most important thing about battle pets is the community around it. Nowhere else in WoW I have encountered nicer people. The WarcraftPets discord is my favourite WoW discord and not only for Battle Pet related content, but also for any other game help and just chatting. Xu-Fu's Pet Guides Discord is another great place and the Xu-Fus pet guide website is incredibly helpful for all pet needs, including teams for each encounter and automated team import functions. While we're at it, the Warcraft Mounts website also has a huge section dedicated to battle pets, my go to site for pet color variants.
I love about Battle Pets, that it’s content I can always take a break from if needed and that I can also do on the side while watching a video or stream. I’ve done Mythic Raiding and M+ (high enough to get portals) in the past, but with wife & kids I don’t want to dedicate 2-3 evenings per week to WoW, with fixed raid start times that interfere with real life. I’m now more into PvP and Mount & Pet collecting, a bit more casual I guess because my main concern is to always be able to step away from the computer when real life demands so without letting my teammates down.
If Blizzard was to change Battle Pets in a way that would take away the fun for people like me and ruin the battle pet communities, that could potentially be a game breaker for me. I’m usually taking breaks from the game during the warm summer months and the battle pet community has always been a driving factor to come back to the game, because it makes me feel good and cozy. If that changes due to Blizzard taking away development resources from Battle Pets, then I might not come back one day. Housing and other features are nice, but they will never have a community as awesome as the battle pet community!

I posted this on the EU forums , but I sadly can't post on the US forums because I don't have the required level 10 character there to post.

I love "collecting" things - so mounts, achievements, pets, etc, and it's really sad that Blizzard are doing this. I can't imagine it's something that takes up a huge amount of their time - the framework for it is already there and they have the "pets" already there from their catalogue of critters etc. I've posted on their forums: Link

I love that it's a solo activity in-game that has a community outside the game, that's the perfect type of WoW content for me. Both collecting pets and pet battling is a chill activity I can do on my own time and as much or as little as I can and very little content is gated behind previous challenges. And the pets are cute. I love that battle pets gave me something to do in this game I love after my disability worsened. The TLDR version is that I have limited use of my hands due to a brain injury. It's been worsening as I get older and I had to set things aside. I ended up finding battle pets as a new hobby within the game and I wish I had done so sooner - even before the aforementioned health issues. It's been so fun collecting them, battling them, and making my way through the content we've been given! I just hope we keep getting more of it. I adore it.

Strategic approach.
Creating balanced teams, adapting to opponents, using different combinations of pets — all this makes Pet Battles exciting and requires strategic thinking.
Collecting.
Collecting and selling rare pets can generate income.
Diversity.
The game's expansions bring new trainers, quests, and wild pets, which creates additional challenges.
Gameplay.
Pet Battles add a playful element to the player's adventures, such as when a cute rabbit defeats a mighty dragon.
Community.
Through the Pet Battles system, players build friendships, create strategies, share guides, and help each other.

i love pet battles because it's like a small separate universe within wow. there are so many you can collect, so many strategies to try, you can battle against other players and there are even tamers for which no 100% win rate strategy exists.
But the best part is the community which is always helpful, trying their hardest and generally being welcoming and kind.
I hope Blizzard hears and sees our voices because we care about our little friends!

Seems like I have been playing Wow forever, well it has been 17 years! I can honestly say for the majority of those I barely knew there were pets involved, yes I collected a couple here and there from achieves or rewards but never went out of my way to seek them.

Then came BoA and for me the game started to slide, each expansion has held less and less interest with some of the community becoming a little too toxic for my likes so I looked into other parts of the game. Thus another collector was born :)

I began with completing achieves solo which gave me a whole raft of different things to do but they did keep giving me more of these pets?? Better find something to do with them I guess. Wonder how many of them there are........ and down the rabbit hole I go

Searching, battling, buying and puzzling my way to see if I can find as many as I can. I will never get there as I started too late and so many are no longer available but I keep going!
Just this small part of teh game has kept me interested in WoW for at least the last 5 or 6 years alone.

It would be a real shame to see an interesting and diverse part of the game which is such a small thing to maintain and expand on, that has little to no impact on how others interact but provides meaningful content options to those who are looking for something different disappear because it isn't seen as mainstream.
